Still pretty quiet lately the year’s not really kicked off yet expect to see some more stuff soon, I picked this car from the Eibach Meet coverage in the states because secretly I have a CRX fetish, its like my Ice Road Truckers fetish….

I really love this CRX the colour is pretty nice and everything’s been done just right.

Central towing eye is a nice touch

Spoon wheels are niiiiiiiiiice if your running Rota Slipstreams take note, keep it legit.

I kinda like the stance on this one too I think I have a Roofrack fetish not so keen on the Sportmaxx wheels though, not sure whats going on with the turquoise trousers in the back you’d never get away with that in the UK haha. Pictures courtesy of their respective owners and NWP.

I’m going to do my best to bring you some new and exciting projects to give you a flavour of whats going on the UK. I’d not usually feature NSX’s standard I find them pretty tame but this project really caught my eye the owner has chosen Plans Motorsport to turn the car into a JGTC style race car.

The car is off to a fantastic start with a full Route K’s Zero Force bodykit and AP Racing brakes.

The exterior should look very similar to this once complete

Its about time I brought you the second half of my trip to Autosport I was knackered by this point in the day the glare of the fluorescent lighting did me no favours!

wrgb728.jpg

Suzuki Ignis S1600 are now a fixture at national level dominant back in the day they still remain top contenders in the s1600 classes in national rallying.

wrgb723.jpg

Msport are branching out into the R3 class in rallying currently occupied by the Swift Sport cup cars expect another one make championship from them this year.

wrgb722.jpg

You really dont want to be a carthief in the UK these days with various Police forces taking delivery of top spec Subari Impreza STI’s.

wrgb706.jpg

Another shot of the mad Norris designs evo, the engine is now transverse in the chassis expect to see it ripping up Time Attack in 2009. The last incarnation didn’t do so well though i’m thinking maybe this will be just a little too fast for the chassis.

wrgb669.jpg

Kris Meeke finally got a decent drive to show off his skills so look out for him in the Kronos Peugeot s2000 in this years intercontinental rally championship supported by Peugeot UK.

wrgb697.jpg

Y’van Mullers winning Seat from the 2008 championship this thing had some monster camber at the rear.

wrgb678.jpg

The show was pretty small in comparison to other years.

wrgb672.jpg

I’ve never really been big on Porsche’s they all look pretty samey in terms of styling and I just find them bland, but I really loved this GT racer especially in its golden hue.

wrgb673.jpg

Check out the rear end and that monster rear splitter, the wing gives the car a mean profile from the rear.

Not much to say about this, I just love the photo’s and the car I really didn’t like the 08 STI as first but with a few choice modifications they look fantastic, whats with Californians is it the air? the surroundings? we just dont get many cars this nice in the UK.

SSR Type-F alloys who said gold wheels on Subaru’s were overplayed?

Photo’s by Luis3rd and they’re pretty amazing

The Autosport show is usually held the same weekend as the Tokyo Auto Salon in the less than glamorous Birmingham NEC it’s always a welcome break from the post christmas blues and generally showcases what’s happening in the Motorsport industry in the coming year.

This year I managed to score an exhibitor pass courtesy of my dad so we headed down to the NEC for the day, i’ll start this topic by showing you all the junk I came back with LOL, yeah im 16 in that photo evident by the polo shirt and you can never have enough Pens and lanyards right?

wrgb681.jpg

wrgb648.jpg

Subaru had on display a revised N2009 Group N car whilst the company no longer runs at the top level of the WRC they still produce and maintain a number of group N cars for customers.

wrgb646.jpg

Prodrive had on display the Aston Martin Vantage GT4, Prodrive always have the best stand hands down.

wrgb649.jpg

wrgb647.jpg

I ran into Paul and Woodzey from Buddyclub UK who run this Integra in the Time Attack championship by the looks of it the cars been on a slight diet over the off season and should once again be running at the front next year.

wrgb657.jpg

Steve Perez’s Safari spec Datsun 240z always looks fantastic although a little weird on polystyrene snow.

wrgb660.jpg

s2000 spec rally cars were everywhere evident by the new Opel Corsa s2000

wrgb661.jpg

Simon Norris brought along his now completed short wheel base Evo 8 now sporting Voltex aero at the front and a transverse mounted engine the colours still gash though.

wrgb663.jpg

MDM? Malaysia is really kicking it up a gear with this customer program s2000 Proton Satria NEO developed by British firm MSD.

wrgb668.jpg

Mitsubishi launched their new Evo X series for identical spec Evo’s no idea what format this will take but maybe it’ll be a standalone championship. I’ll be posting the other half soon so check back for that.

As i’ve neared the top cars in my cars of 2008 list its been increasingly harder to really make a definitive choice as to where a car places and why. 2008 really saw a maturity in Japanese tuning in the UK the credit crunch could see a reduction in the kind of engineering and craftsmanship that people put into their projects.

This car was really standout for me, adding a naturally aspirated Honda s2000 engine to the Corolla’s isn’t something groundbreaking its been done before to varying degree’s but the engine has really breathed new life into the AE86 where the standard 4AGE held the car back a little.

I’ve followed this build since the beginning and as with these kind of projects one things leads to another until your undertaking an epic build, and as it stands its still not quite finished yet!

cimg3434jpg.jpg

Rolling on Work Equips the car mixes the now almost antique Corolla with modern mechanical.

cimg3442jpg.jpg

Just after paint you can just see the gusseted roll cage

cimg4056.JPG

Honda engine is mated with a set of individual throttle bodies check out the quality of the welds on the manifold and the carbon/kevlar spark plug cover.

cimg4398.JPG

Satin black bonnet really compliments the aero, Takumi Panda style!

cimg4410.JPG

You’d almost be mistaken for thinking this was the concept of a WRC car with a modified transmission tunnel and custom carbon dash. Hopefully the project will see completion soon and Ian G’s Levin will hit the track.

Its been all too quiet lately with most people still recovering from Christmas the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon gets underway in Japan i’ve been digging through lots of content to try and find some decent coverage but its still filtering through. But there are some pretty nice looking machines out there this year.

3181344725_8f18c835c2_b.jpg

J’s racing have unveiled their new widebody aero for the S2000 the graphics are way over the top but actually don’t look so bad, the less said about the scheme on the side though the better.

3182178344_b60c16aee1_b.jpg

I’m not digging the rear fenders and by the looks of it they’ve to add a rear diffuser, the arches and the fins on the side really let the kit down overall which is a shame.

3182135222_af3da5658f_b.jpg

Never seen this Seibon aero bonnet before knowing other Seibon products it’ll fit like shit and weigh more than stock no idea on the specs, you can see the Sunline Racing Swift in the background. Don’t even get me started on the wheels on that…

3182164074_e8394c1087_b.jpg

It looks like Suzuki are finally starting to grasp how much money can be made in aftermarket tuning parts presenting this modified Swift Sport.

3182892260_e34a8d95b4_b.jpg

The less said about this (can I even call it a thing?) the better i’ve no idea what RE are trying to achieve here but its pretty hideous they’ve rolled out several new looks for the RX7 but very few have been successful.

3183049818_86504bdbe0_b.jpg

This looked pretty cooled the Corolla AXIO Super GT no idea if its a concept car or not but it looks great. I’m off to Autosport in the UK tommorow so expect a bumper report from sunny Birmingham!

I’m a motorsport fan through and through and it spans all discliplines from Super GT to WRC my cars of the year all mean something to me over the past year whether it be the engineering, the appearance or simply what they did to their respective sports and scenes.

My runner up in car of the year is the venerable Dome S102 in comparison to the big money entries of Audi and Peugeot, Dome already down on power with the Judd GV5.5 72º V10 took the car to Le Mans with very little development but managed to put in a credible showing.

Dome opted to make its debut at Le Mans to much surprise with a stable of Super GT drivers they qualified a respectable 8th.

Dome opting for the coupe bodystyle citing greater ero efficiency the car looking almost like Bentleys efforts of the previous years.

After some problems in the evening the team would eventually finished 33rd showing pace at points the car made it through the 24 hours, with some more development the car could be a flier.
